Music Department
Current Policy
Formal department policy remains unchanged - students ordinarily may not P/F a class for the major. However, students may petition the department for P/F. The department will consider petitions for exemptions to department policy - like P/F - for students on a case-by-case basis. Students should first consult with their instructor.
Policy Statement
The Undergraduate Curriculum Committee of the Music Department discussed this issue, and concluded that we are unable to make a broad department-wide change to grading policies at this point in the term. However, we want to make it clear to the student body that the faculty in Music cares deeply about the well-being of our students and have been working hard all quarter to accommodate the current difficult situation we find ourselves in. In support of our students, we want to encourage undergraduates who are feeling the pressures of grading to reach out to their professors to discuss any issues they are having, so that we can come up with solutions on an individual basis. Professors in music are all caring individuals and would like to help out any students who are struggling with grades this quarter.
