Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations Department
New Policy
Students may petition the department for P/F. The petition must include a letter from the instructor approving the P/F grade and an explanation of the specific adverse effects of the pandemic on the student.
Policy Statement
In cases where a NELC Major or Minor’s academic performance was demonstrably and deleteriously impacted by the ongoing adverse conditions of the COVID-19 pandemic, the student may petition the Department (through the Director of Undergraduate Studies) to make an exception to this rule. Please note that such petitions seeking a P/F grade will not be automatically approved. Students should detail the reasons for which they are seeking an exception to the rule, including a letter of support from the instructor which stipulates that they agree to the P/F grade request.
